Practical Life Exercises
The Exercises of Practical Life, which are the foundation of a Montessori environment, provide a sane and wholesome range of activities which allow your child to develop control and coordination of movement, awareness of his/her environment, good work habits, responsibility, concentration, attention, independence, order and positive self image which can be attained by spontaneous and purposeful work.

Sensorial Training
Children learn through five senses. The primary purpose of sensorial exercises is to further refine his/her senses of touch, smell, sight and hearing. The materials used in the sensorial exercises will be unlike anything else that your child has ever encountered in the way of play things. Your child will be able to perceive sizes, shape, colours, sounds, textures, odours etc. The sensorial materials lay a solid foundation for Mathematics, Geometry, Geography, Botany, Art and Music.

Montessori Language
A multi-sensory approach that combines phonics, stories and language experiences to bring meaning to the learning of reading and writing. In our system, your child does not learn by heart, but utilises all his/her senses to help him/her read and write with proper understanding. Discovering becomes interesting, fun and creative through activities in the Pink, Blue and Green Montessori language series. Grammar will be taught to enhance the child’s attention to and use of words in every day speaking.

Montessori Mathematics
An activity-based programme that allows your child to have hands-on experience in learning mathematical concepts. Montessori arithmetic is taught through the manipulation of concrete objects. Your child will be taught addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, reading of clock, the decimal system, number bonds, length, weight, calendar, capacity, graph, money and problem solving.

Creative Art
To encourage children to express themselves, interesting and fun activities such as drawing, painting, collage work and handicraft will be planned for them. Through these guided activities, our children are able to experience success and this, in turn, will help boost your child’s self-esteem.

Cultural Subjects
The Montessori cultural subjects cover:
  • Nature study
It includes the study of living and non-living things. Children will have the opportunity to explore and understand their environment.

  • Botany and Zoology
Children are exposed to the study of plants and animals. They will be taught to classify impressions into clear and simple categories.

  • Geography
To launch the child’s exploration of the world’s physical environment, children are introduced to various continents, countries, states, land and water forms and the solar system.

  • History
Through creative activities such as modeling, painting and collage, children are taught to understand the distinction between past and present and how past events have led to the present situation.

Types of Programmes
We offer the following Programs at MMI-PIK:

  • Toddler Class (6 months to 17 months)
Toddler Class which features a wall-to-wall soft play area room and a two-hour program for both toddlers & their parents or caregiver. The Toddler Class teacher is a fully-trained Montessori Directress and Montessori materials are also used in class activities. Classes are held everyday and students have the option of going to school three times, four times or the full week.

  • Playgroup (18mths to 2 1/2 years)
Children from 18 months to 2 1/2 years old will join our Playgroup. As children of this age group emerge from babyhood, they require both a stimulating and nourishing environment to develop their mental skills. Practical Life activities and manipulative play help to develop their motor skills, sense of order, independence, concentration, responsibility of self and environment. As they learn fastest through their senses, they will also be involved in activities that stimulate their learning senses (eg, Sensorial Activities). Early number concepts and language skills (e.g Phonics) will be taught in a fun and engaging way.

  • Nursery (2 1/2 years to 4 years)
As a continuation from early learning experience from the Playgroup, children of this age group are able to work with more complex exercises within the Practical Life and Sensorial Activities range. Activities are mainly hands-on, fun and concrete at this stage and this sets the basis for later/further development in abstract concepts. Early mathematical concepts, word building skills and early writing skills are taught in the Nursery stage. Foundation is also laid at this stage for good work and social habits.

  • Kindergarten 1 (4 to 5 years)
The Kindergarten group consists of children who are 4 -5 years. At this stage children are ready to take on more complex exercises in a more disciplined way. Mathematics, language, writing skills will be further developed in fun and manipulative ways. They will also be involved in early science and cultural activities (Botany, Zoology & History), which introduces the child to the natural environment around him.

  • Kindergarten 2 (5 to 6 years)
This programme caters to children of 5-6 years in age. They will be taught Mathematics, Chinese and English that will prepare them well for formal primary schooling. At this stage, they will be able to embark on elementary reading on their own. Educational quizzes and games will be also be organised to challenge the children's brains to encourage them to think deeper into a subject. At the end of the year, a concert will be put up by the children for their graduation ceremony.
